Work by Lindsay Garland will be on display at BAAC’s Gallery on Main September 23 – November 28. The exhibition, titled Visitors: A Display of Perpetual Discovery, features photographs by Garland that have been digitally manipulated to create an ethereal world.
Her series embodies the concept of perpetual discoveries made over a period of time. Much like German romantic paintings, the images in this collection have a dreamlike quality that allows the viewer to escape from the mundane and enter a world outside of reality. “I try to construct a world that is dramatically separate from the one we live in. These creations are conceived from observation of daily life, dreams, and faded recollections of memories,” explains Lindsay of her work.
Born in the rural town of Salem, Arkansas, Lindsay is a talented and ambitious conceptual photographer. She earned a BFA from Arkansas State University in 2013, and currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee. Lindsay had two art pieces accepted into BAAC’s 2013 National Juried Art Exhibition, for which she earned two awards, including Citizens Bank’s Purchase Prize Award. The piece selected for the Purchase Prize Award now hangs in the Josephine Raye Rogers Gallery at Citizens Bank as part of their permanent collection.
The reception for Lindsay’s exhibition, Visitors: A Display of Perpetual Discovery, will be held on Friday, October 10 from 5pm-7pm. The reception is free and open to the public and guests can come enjoy refreshments and a brief artist talk by Lindsay at 6pm.
