Enjoy a day in Calico Rock and enjoy all the updates being made to this beautiful community

With the start of school and the heat of August, the Calico Rock Museum Foundation has taken advantage of a little slower traffic on Main Street to complete some refurbishment projects. Margaret Mason and Claire Cresto have been busy cleaning and weeding the Museum Garden and they look very nice. We had a load of mulch delivered today which Claire has volunteer to install and freshen up the landscaping before the Mountain Man Rendeimagezvous.

In front of the Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center, we have begun pouring a new ramp to refurbish the ramp leading from Main Street to the upper sidewalk. After years of age and weathering, the ramp was in disrepair and the access from the street was difficult, at best. The new ramp looks very nice and should make getting to the buildings along upper Main Street much easier.

Inside the museum, we are planning for several exhibit enhancements and facility upgrades over the winter. We are also working on our first science-based educational program which will be conducted on September 9th to the Calico Rock Elementary School fourth grade class. It’s an area we have been hoping to branch into for some time and we are very excited about the opportunity.

We are making big plans for our Mountain Man Rendezvous and Native American Day on September 11-12. We have invited Calico Rock Elementary School and Norfork Elementary School to bring their students for a series of programs and games during the Rendezvous on Friday, September 11. Everyone is invited to come to the Rendezvous for activities on Friday night and again on Saturday. For more information on our events, visit our website at www.calicorockmuseum.com.

During that same weekend, the city has designated Saturday, September 12 as City Wide Yard Sale. You do not need to register your location, just simply set up your yard sale and capitalize on the tourists coming to town for the Rendezvous to sell, sell, sell.

Anything you don’t sale can be saved for the City Wide CleanUp in October.

While you are out for the Rendezvous, make time to support the Pineville Volunteer Fire Department at their annual barbecue lunch and auction on Saturday, September 12. You can preorder Boston Butts now in addition to the great lunch they will serve that day.

While we are making plans, the Calico Rock Booster Club will be hosting Intramural Basketball Games for elementary students on September 10, September 14, September 17 and September 29. All games are at the high school gym. Games will begin at 5:00 p.m. It’s a great time to enjoy these youngsters learning and playing basketball.

Don’t forget about the wonderful Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour on September 18-20.
