Have you visited your museum today? Tuesday – Saturday, 9:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m.   Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.   The museum is open to the public year-round, and is free to all visitors. Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. (Inquire at the Visitor Center)   Meeting place: Visitor Center – Admission: Free

Friday, September 12
6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.     SNAKES OF THE ALLUVIAL PLAIN
Join a park interpreter and learn about the different snakes that live in the Delta region of Arkansas. Learn about some common misconceptions and possibly even get to see and touch a live snake!

Saturday, September 13
9 a.m. – 10 a.m.      WOODPECKER WALK
Join a park interpreter on a moderately strenuous walk on the Tunstall River Walk and look for some of Jacksonport State Park’s woodpeckers. Wear sturdy shoes, and bring water and a birding book if you have one.

2 p.m. – 3 p.m.     MAKING LEAF FOSSILS
Trees have been on earth for millions of years. Sassafras leaves have been found as fossils that are up to 54 million years old. Join a park interpreter at the picnic area to make a long lasting leaf fossil to take home with you!

6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.     A REMEDY FOR WHAT AILS YOU
Meet a park interpreter to discover how 19th century residents took care of their own medical needs. The medicinal uses of local herbs will be discussed, especially during the Civil War years when commercial remedies were scarce.

Sunday, September 14
2 p.m. – 3 p.m.         CIVIL WAR WEAPONS
See a demonstration in black powder weapons that were used during the Civil War. Join a park interpreter to learn how these weapons were used and fired, and more about famous Civil War fighters that used these confederate weapons.
