Please look at the bulletin boards for the most up to date information. Please call the park at 870.878.6595 for questions.

Prescribed burns are being conducted by specially trained crews, skilled in fire management operations. Safety is emphasized in all phases of the fire management with local fire protection representatives being involved in the planning process.

Why do prescribed burning on state parks?
While the initial result of prescribed burning may look unattractive, Arkansas State Park’s goal is responsible land management. Prescribed burns are conducted to reduce fuel loads and ladder fuels and reduce leaf litter on the forest floor which helps prevent wildfires that can lead to destruction of life and property. We also do it for habitat management. Prescribed burning is a safe way to provide more food for local wildlife and aid in native species restoration.
