melbourne2“We are excited to offer people a glimpse into the past through old-fashioned recipes,” state Director/Humanities Educator Amelia Bowman. In addition to making and sampling a variety of foods, a bake sale will also feature old fashioned dishes such as chicken and dumplings, homemade soup, vinegar pie, and much more.

Visitors will help make a variety of foods using traditional methods. Ice cream will be made in a hand crank ice cream maker, butter will be hand churned, and cracklins and hoe cakes will be made over an open fire. “The opportunity to see the advancement in cooking techniques and technology over the last one hundred years will be a great experience for visitors,” Bowman added. Between dish samplings, visitors can participate in making apple prints, paper pizzas, jello worms, and decorating Indian corn.
