PortFest 2017 Now A US Air Guitar Qualifying Event

The PortFest Committee is proud to announce that the Bud Light US Air Guitar Qualifying Event will be part of PortFest 2017. PortFest is one of the eleven venues around the nation announced in the first round of qualifiers.

The Bud Light US Air Guitar Championships Qualifying Event will be held June 10 at 5:30 pm. Contestants will play their “air guitar” in round one to a 60 second section of any song they choose (contestants must supply the music) in Round One. Those who advance to Round Two will play 60 seconds of a surprise song. Winners will be selected on their stage presence, technical skill and their “airness” (how they elevate air guitar playing to an art form).

The top two scorers from the Bud Light US Air Guitar Qualifier in Newport will advance to the semi-finals in Kansas City. PortFest will assist the winners will funds toward their travel to Kansas City. The top two finishers in Kansas City will advance to the US Air Guitar national competition.

US Air Guitar is devoted to taking our nation’s national pastime out of the bedroom and putting it up on the national and world stage. Founded in 2003, the US Air Guitar Championships has grown into a major national event that reaches more cities and fans each year. As the only national competition recognized by the US Air Guitar World Championships, US Air Guitar sends the national champions to compete for the world title in Oulu, Finland each year.

US Air Guitar is also dedicated to advancing the larger purpose set forth by the Air Guitar World Championships: to promote world peace. According to the Finnish ideology of air guitar, “Wars would end, climate change would stop and all bad things would disappear, if all the people in the world played the air guitar.”

Doug “The Thunder” Stroock, a two time second place finisher in the US Air Guitar Championships Nationals, will serve as emcee for the Bud Light US Air Guitar Qualifier at PortFest.

The entry fee for the Bud Light US Air Guitar Qualifier is $15 per contestant. Find a registration form and more details at www.portfest.org.
