Take a Nostalgic Historical Walk Back into Time at Davidsonville State Park

Kids are back at school! It has rained so much and/or been almost too humid to enjoy summertime.  Don’t let the weather steal your outside adventurous time with your family – starting right now!  We caught a hitch in the rain today and traveled to Davidsonville Historic State Park, and simply were not prepared for the nostalgic Arkansas, historical, remote, quaint, almost supernatural atmosphere into which we entered.

The Visitors Center just opened this past May, and it offers  virtual interacting media as well as rooms of artifacts, history, and all about a little town once upon a time on the Black River that existed from 1815 to 1830.  There were several myths about what happened to this little town, and I will let you find out for yourself.  AND October 8th there will be the Ghosts Walk of Davidsonville Fall Festival – where you can see, feel and hear for yourself what happened many years ago!  Just kidding, no, I’m serious, you may draw your own conclusion, as I have.

Debbie and Ashley at the Visitor Center were helpful with brochures and a lot of questions I had, and after a lot of info we set out to walk around the little ghostly structural virtual town of Davidsonville.  It didn’t take a long time, but it was quite the Arkansas history lesson, which I loved in school.  They tell me this is a favorite place for school field trips, and I agree!   There are ghostly architectural structures representing the town square courthouse and the post office, and engraved and posted historical facts all placed strategically for a walk through the portals of time back to Davidsonville in 1815, the little town bordering the Black River that disappeared.

The camp sites are being renovated and will reopen about the end of September.  They offer fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boats to rent, badminton, horseshoes, trails to hike or ride bikes, with two huge covered pavilions for family reunions or whatever occasion.  There will be 20 camp sites totally  renovated and they are all excited with the newly leveled camp sites and all this quiet, remote beautiful state park offers to those seeking just that.  The Visitor Center also has a back porch with some rocking chairs for tourists to sit and watch the hummingbirds in the back yard, leading to the Trapper Lake with its water activities going on, just a place to catch your breath in life and realize how good life is, at this moment, at this place, where you will always long to be, again.
