America’s 250th birthday was a year away and the Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center began planning ways to celebrate the event. Museum staff and board members began looking for a handout to teach kids about the United States Constitution. What seemed like an easy task became impossible.

“Other than a few coloring sheets, there were no resources that actually explained the U.S. Constitution in a way that children could understand,” Museum Executive Director Bambi Bowden said. The board of trustees approved a project to hire Industrial Art & Design to create a Kids Guide for the U.S. Constitution and provide free copies to area schools. “We wanted to present a
guide that kids could understand but that was faithful to the integrity of the Constitution, the Founders, and the reasons why America declared Independence,” Lauren Argo, principal of Industrial Art & Design, said. Argo completed the layout and design with careful attention to historically accurate facts without any bias, a direction made clear from the board. The finished product is an attractive booklet that educates and inspires.

The Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center offers the guide for free at their location on Main Street in Calico Rock. The Museum provided the files to the United States Archives and the White House, since one like it was not available from the U.S. government. It is also available online for a free download at https://www.explorecalico.com/museum-and-visitor-
