This June, the heart of the Ozarks will beat a little louder as Mountain View once again becomes the gathering place for storytellers, songwriters, and folk music lovers from near and far. Known as the “Folk Music Capital of the World,” Mountain View has built its reputation on front porch picking, courthouse square jams, and a deep-rooted generational tradition of keeping American folk music alive and thriving.
That tradition takes center stage June 19–20, during the John Prine Tribute Concert at Ozark Folk Center State Park. The Ozark Highlands Theater will host two nights of music celebrating the life and legacy of John Prine, featuring performances by friends and family including Shawn Camp, Pat McLaughlin, Keith Sykes, Tommy Prine, Otis Gibbs, and Pam Setser. The weekend also includes special film screenings, with “You Got Gold: A Celebration of John Prine” on Friday and “How Lucky Can One Man Get” on Saturday, adding a cinematic layer to the musical tribute.
Beyond the stage, visitors can explore artisan demonstrations, craft displays, and the living history experiences that make the Ozark Folk Center a cornerstone of Arkansas culture. The park itself is a working tribute to traditional Ozark skills and music, where visitors can see heritage crafts in action and feel the rhythm of a bygone era still very much alive.
Adding to the soundtrack of the region is Ozark Highlands Radio, a beloved broadcast that shares the sounds of traditional Ozark music with listeners everywhere, further cementing Mountain View’s role as a keeper of folk heritage.
