Lyon College Chamber Choir, Symphonic Wind Ensemble to Host Concert March 8
BATESVILLE, Arkansas — The Lyon College Music department will present a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, in Sloan Auditorium of the Brown Fine Arts Building on the Batesville campus at 2300 Highland Rd., featuring performances by the Lyon College Chamber Choir and the Lyon College Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert highlights the breadth of the college’s music program through a blend of sacred works, classical repertoire, contemporary compositions and selections from musical theatre.
The Lyon College Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Bethany Neese, assistant professor of music, and accompanied by Dr. Skye Hart, adjunct professor of keyboards and collaborative artist, will perform a diverse program including “Tantum Ergo,” with text by Thomas Aquinas and music by George Tucker, and “Dona Nobis Pacem” from the “Missa Solemnis” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The choir will also presen
t selections from “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, including a solo performance by Mary Evangeline Karns and a medley arranged by Ed Lojeski.
The Lyon College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by John Christian, director of bands, will perform a program spanning multiple eras and styles. Featured works include “Ardita” by Donald Furlano, “Aria” by George Frideric Handel as arranged by Larry Daehn, music from “The Sound of Music” by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, arranged by Johnnie Vinson, and “La Caracola” by Philip Sparke.
Student Sajani Sharma will provide the concert introduction.
The Lyon College Music department offers students and the broader community opportunities to engage with music through academic study and performance. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the department emphasizes creation, analysis and aesthetic experiences while promoting global perspectives and service through the arts.
