MUSEUM HOSTING MONTHLY VETERANS GATHERING

The Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center is hosting a monthly gathering for area veterans on the third Tuesday of each month. The group gathers with Izard County Veterans Service Officer Josh Morrison. They meet at 1:30 p.m. in the museum’s boardroom.

“The whole idea is to give our veterans an opportunity to come together, visit with one another, and talk through any issues they may be having,” Museum Executive Director Bambi Bowden said recently.

The Museum team provides cookies and coffee served with plenty of smiles and laughter. There is no formal program or agenda. It’s truly a gathering of veterans who tell old tales and share time together in brotherhood. Having Mr. Morrison present gives the veterans an opportunity to talk about any issues they may be having getting treatment or benefits they earned when serving our country. It’s an informal gathering of friends.

Ronald Stichter, a veteran, said, “I really enjoyed our get together and look forward to the next one.”

Mr. Morrison said, “For everyone interested in this monthly get-together, it is the best setting for genuine conversations with veterans. It is a perfect location with a very welcoming and calming setting. I want to urge anyone who wants to join us next time, to do just that. Show up and hang out with us on the 3rd Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Museum.”

In addition to the monthly veterans gathering, the Museum is hosting a monthly sewing group gathering in The Nook on the first Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m. It’s also an informal group that comes together to sew, laugh, and share time together, and maybe a few tricks of the trade.

Every week, the Museum is hosting an Any Recovery meeting in The Nook. This group meets every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. There is no judgment, no agenda, just a gathering of friends who are working to improve their lives and condition.

Recently, the Museum added a Grief Support Group gathering. This group meets with a grief counselor who works with Hospice families. This group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in The Nook. They will meet again on Tuesday, May 26th at 2:00 p.m.

“We only exist because of this community and it’s important for us to offer the opportunity for our community to come together in whatever season of life or need someone may be facing,” Bowden added.
